‘Arsene Wenger cannot break my record’ | Sir Alex Ferguson

Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson
Former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that no manager will be able to match the number of years he spent as United boss.

Ferguson spent 26-and-a-half-years in charge at Old Trafford before quitting in 2013. In the updated version of his autobiography, the legendary gaffer stated that it will be difficult to see a manager stay that long on the job.

The former United boss stressed that the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is the only person that stands the best chance of breaking that record but he expressed doubt that the Frenchman will reach that milestone.

“The model I represented has passed into history. You won’t see anyone manage one club for 26 years. I must say, though, that Arsene Wenger’s reign at Arsenal deserves a special mention.

“Who is to say that Arsene will not beat my record? I have my doubts, but he’s having a good crack at it,” Ferguson wrote.

The highly decorated manager also revealed that he was happy to see Wenger win the FA Cup with Arsenal last season ending his nine years trophy drought.

“Everyone was happy for him winning the FA Cup. I was hoping Steve Bruce would win it for Hull because he was one of my players; but you also had to have a special feeling for Arsene, given the pressure he was under for not winning a trophy for nine years,” he added.
