The Presidency has described APC presidential aspirants General Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as serial losers.
Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, told State House journalists yesterday, that the declaration of intention by Buhari and Atiku to contest the 2015 presidential election posed no threat.
Buhari declared yesterday, while Atiku did that lat last month.
Okupe said Jonathan would be contesting the 2015 elections with “serial losers” who, according to him, lack leadership qualities and have nothing new to tell Nigerians.
“Most of the candidates of the opposition are serial failures, Okupe said.
“Atiku has tried twice and has failed, Buhari has done it four times and he has failed. If you present yourself for an election, first, second, third and fourth time, what new things are they bringing?
“Have they gone to school or are they bringing new things? We’re absolutely unperturbed. The president is going to contest against serial losers, people who never won election, people who have no leadership quality.”
He added: “They have never won an election before. Somebody who has contested four times and failed four times. For instance, what’s Buhari going to tell Nigerians now? What’s the new thing. He was a former military head of state and that’s what he has done, but since then, what’s the new story? You can’t compare I’ll do to I’ve done. It’s not possible.”
Asked when precisely Jonathan would declare whether or not he would contest the 2015 elections, Okupe said the president would soon take an appropriate decision in the interest of Nigeria and the People’s Democratic Party after due consideration.Buhari declared yesterday, while Atiku did that lat last month.

He said the president had been under intense pressure from ordinary Nigerians as well as local and foreign interest groups to seek a second term in office.
“Yoruba people have one proverb which says it’s the biggest masquerade that comes out last,” he said.
Okupe also described as false, a media report that Jonathan was trying to elongate his tenure using the insurgency in the North-East as a basis. He also alleged that the publication was a calculated attempt by the APC to embarrass the president.
“There is nothing like that. This is not the president that’d do a thing like that, and there is no reason whatsoever for this president to do that,” he said.
