The election was declared inconclusive on Sunday following the cancellation of results in some areas.
But the retuning officer, Professor Rotimi Ajayi, yesterday at the INEC office in Okene, said the areas where they initially cancelled, the presiding officers came up with copies of the results that were torn during the election as a result of crisis.
He stressed that they were able to make use of that result sheet from the presiding officer which showed that the PDP senatorial candidate scored more votes than others.
Ajayi therefore declared Ogembe of the PDP winner with a total vote of 46,503.
Meanwhile, the senator-elect has assured the people of the central senatorial district that he would do his best to reposition Ajaokuta Iron and Steel company which had been abandoned for the past 30 years.
Speaking with journalists at the INEC office, Ogembe said the return of Ajaokuta steel would be his first priority when he resumed as a senator from the state, adding that: “If that steel company is completed, it will reduce the suffering of the people as more youths are expected to be employed and it will also boost the economy.”
Ogembe thanked the people of the district for the free and fair election which gave him victory.
The retuning officer had on Sunday while declaring the result, cancelled that of Otutu ward, two polling units at Upogoro in Okene Local Government Area and Karaworo, Eresuha and Inozomi wards in Adavi Local Government Area which made the election inconclusive.
to my mind , its INEC that prompted the plethora of election cases that we have in Nigeria today , if not why the after thought in declaring a winner after they must have told the world that an election was inconclusive , its very pathetic
